East Kingstown MP Fitz Bramble says he is still committed to building a water park in Sion Hill, despite the criticism the idea received when he first floated it during the campaign for the 2020 general elections.
“Last election, I told you that we are going to get a water park downside Sion Hill. Boy, and they carry on. Even up to today, they try to rubbish it,” Bramble told a campaign event in Walvaroo, Sion Hill, on Monday.
“But these people are so disingenuous and so hypocritical. The same water park that they’re rubbishing and saying it can’t happen down Sion Hill Beach, they’re going Florida, they’re going Barbados, they’re going Antigua, they’re going St. Lucia, and spending lots of money to enjoy the same water park, where they say, we can’t get down here,” Bramble said.
“But they could preach Paul, as they say. They could preach until the cows come home. We getting we water park.”
Bramble, who is biddin for election to a second five-year term in office, said he was in discussions with two young engineers from East Kingstown who live overseas.
“And they are about to put together something, an impression of what it would look like.”
He said the idea includes a boardwalk from the bottom of the tarmac of the decommissioned ET Joshua Airport in Arnos Vale to Sion Hill Bay.
“We talking about putting down guest houses, or at least a guest house,” Bramble said, adding that the Sion Hill beach development project is going to directly benefit the people of Walvaroo.
“Because, if they right there, young people will get opportunities for work. We will be bringing in income in tourism and all of that.”
Bramble also floated the idea of a multi-purpose indoor facility “similar to Madison Square Garden.
“Now, of course, we cannot build and sustain and maintain a facility of that magnitude,” Bramble said, adding, “It’s not necessary anyway, but the concept will be the same.”
He said the facility will have different types of floor coverings to host events, such as church crusades and different sports.
“East Kingstown is going to get that,” Bramble said. “You can book it and sure as your representative. And listen, I am not telling you this just to get a vote. You know, I am not telling you this just to get your vote. I am telling you what we in East Kingstown have discussed and identified as strategies, as activities, as programmes, as facilities that will help to improve your standard of living.”
Bramble said an NDP administration will ensure that the infrastructure in East Kingstown is “properly developed”.
“We will fix it and we will maintain it,” he said, adding that and NDP government will address issues of retaining walls and drains that are compromising the foundation of homes the constituency and in Wavaroo in particular.
He said that poor roads are a widespread problem, noting that he had tabled in Parliament for Thursday’s meeting questions about the repair of roads in the constituency.
“… I going hear what kind of answers they’re giving me. But we will make sure that the infrastructure is fixed and is properly maintained.”
The MP said an NDP government will make affordable housing available to constituents.
“… one of the ideas that we are toying with right now, and we haven’t really finished developing it fully, because I’m talking to other people in the constituency to get their idea and their input.
“But one of the suggestions is that we look at building apartment complexes because the area is small. … So, if you don’t have the area to go out, you’re going to go up. You could build a two-storey, a three-storey apartment complex — 40, 50, families,” Bramble said.
“I am giving you the message, and I am giving you our plans for improving your quality of life when you re-elect me as your representative and the New Democratic Party as the next government.”
Bramble asked constituents to consider the period since he has been their MP.
“Since 2020, over the last five years under the Unity Labour Party government, has your life gotten better or worse? That is the question I want you to answer.
“Over the last five years under Ralph Gonsalves and his band of mismanages, government, has your life gotten better or worse?”
He told constituents that if they answer the question honestly, “you will go to the polls come next election and send ULP home, never to return, never to come back to mismanage and ill treat you”.
The NDP never seems to have any leverage on the ULP. It is always more of the same. We are always the pawns in someone else’s game.
I think East Kingstown MP Fitz Bramble’s idea of constructing a water park at Sion Hill is a very good idea. It will be good for the local tourism industry. It will also enhance SVG’s tourism product for tourists coming from overseas. But, most importantly, it will create jobs. And I believe these jobs will permanent.
This water park at Sion Hill will create jobs. And I believe these jobs will be permanent.
Tourist will have somewhere extra to visit when they are in St.Vincent.
