The Hairouna Film Festival (HFF) continues in the Grenadines later on Friday, with screenings in Canouan, following a visit to Union Island on Thursday.
The festival returns to the mainland for an exciting closing night on Saturday at FlowT Beach Bar, featuring “Boca Chica” — a critically acclaimed film by award-winning Dominican-Guyanese writer and director Gabriela A. Moses.
“Boca Chica”, set in the Dominican Republic, premiered in the International Narrative Competition at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, where Moses won the prestigious 11th Annual Nora Ephron Award.
Last weekend, film lovers were treated to a thrilling opening night.
The festival launched with the Haitian film “Kidnapping Inc.”, written and directed by the internationally acclaimed Bruno Mourral.
This gripping film, which has been selected as Haiti’s official submission for the 2025 Oscars in the International Feature Film category, was met with high praise from Vincentian audiences.
Adding to the excitement, Mourral and actor Marcus Boereau were present for the screening, engaging with attendees in a lively session moderated by Festival Director, Aiko Roudette.
The festival continued on Saturday, with a special acting and directing workshop at Beachcombers Hotel.
Local filmmakers and actors had the opportunity to learn valuable industry insights from Mourral and Boereau, gaining firsthand knowledge from seasoned professionals as they went through Kidnapping Inc. scene by scene, discussing how it was made.
That evening, the much-anticipated Vincy Night brought the Calliaqua Playing Field to life, showcasing the incredible talents of Vincentian filmmakers and actors.
The event featured 10 powerful short films exploring themes ranging from mental health to the history of the Spiritual Baptist faith in SVG.
The lineup of creatives included Hayden Billingy, Javed DaSouza, Dynamite, Franciska Eliassen, Fabian Guerra, Sean Roache, Aiko Roudette, Vonnie Roudette, Jemmel Williams, and Christina K. Smith.
A post-screening session allowed filmmakers to connect with the audience, sharing the inspiration behind their work.
